Four polar bears — stand before a structure that offers nothing. The sky burns orange. The lines cross without connecting. Something has ended here, or is ending, and the animals know it before we do.

Painted in 2008, this large-format work was one of the first to place animals in a human landscape of failure. The title is not ironic. It is a question without an answer.
